Cranberry Flats Family Session, The Fahim Family, Saskatoon SK

I spent an evening last summer with the Fahim family (Sara, Ramzy and Zaid) at Cranberry Flats. This location is one of my favourites for family sessions as it offers so much openness, room to explore and variation in landscape. During the planning stages of their session, Sara and Ramzy had expressed an interest in a foot washing ceremony, which also made this location perfect as it offered a small bank of sand with access to the water.

While traditionally associated with wedding rituals, they were drawn to its symbolism as a gesture of unity and service, especially given the challenges they've faced in recent years. For them, this simple yet profound act represented a fresh start, a commitment to selflessly serving each other and their family. It was a great reminder of the importance of putting others' needs above our own and fostering an environment of mutual care and support.

Being able to witness Sara, Ramzy and Zaid come together in such a meaningful way made my love for family sessions grow that much more. Family sessions not only document your memories, but remind us of the importance of carving out moments of joy and intimacy amidst the chaos of everyday life.
